- Independent Schools: To apply for Thomas Telford School (Secondary) or any independent school you must apply directly to the chool.
- Applying from Outside Telford & Wrekin: If you live outside the Telford and Wrekin area and are applying for your child to start primary school for the first time, or transfer to junior or secondary school, you must apply through your home local authority.

In-Year Transfer Applications
If your child already attends a school within the borough, we recommend that you discuss your application with their current school before submitting an in-year transfer request.
Please note that we will not process in-year applications more than six school weeks (half a term) before a planned house move. To support your application, you must provide evidence of your move, such as a signed tenancy agreement or exchange of contracts.
Telford & Wrekin Council operates a Fair Access Protocol to ensure that children who are considered hard to place outside the normal admission process are allocated a suitable school place. You can find more information about this on our website.
Travelling to School:
When choosing a school, it is important to consider how your child will travel to and from school. If you apply for a school that is not your nearest or catchment area school, you will generally be responsible for arranging transport and covering any associated costs. For more information, please refer to the School Travel Assistance Policy.
Children in Care (Looked After Children)
Applications for Children in Care (looked after children) must be completed by the child’s Social Worker. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from any other individual.
